Ramens are the comfort dish of popular Japanese gastronomy. We offer them in a variety of recipes that evolve with the seasons. Based on a broth seasoned with spices and a portion of noodles, the bowls are garnished with fresh vegetables, meats or breaded portobello mushrooms. Simon and Raoul
Make no mistake, since 2013, the brand has been dedicated to preparing the tastiest ramen and donburi possible. And let’s clear up the name once and for all! It’s neither Unamido nor Unanido, but Umamido, which takes its name from Umami, the famous “fifth taste” highlighted in Asian cuisine alongside sweet, salty, sour, and bitter.
Located on the 2nd floor of Confédération Centre, just to the left as you enter the Spoon Food Hall, the restaurant delights its guests with a modern take on Japanese cuisine.
Umamido specializes in the preparation of ramen, that iconic Japanese dish consisting of noodles in a rich broth, enhanced with various toppings. However, the restaurant also offers donburi (the rice-based equivalent of ramen), buns, gyoza, and other revisited Asian dishes.
Umamido’s menu is a true taste journey, offering a variety of ramen to satisfy every palate. Among the classics, you will find the Tonkotsu Ramen, made from a long-simmered pork broth that provides a rich mouthfeel and a creamy blend of flavors. For those who prefer lighter flavors, the Shoyu Ramen, with its soy sauce-based broth, offers a gentler but equally tasty alternative.
Vegetarians and vegans are not left out. Umamido offers options such as the Vegan Ramen, prepared with a vegetable broth, artisanal noodles, and toppings like tofu and grilled vegetables. This variety highlights the restaurant’s commitment to offering options for all types of diets while maintaining irreproachable quality.
Fans of Asian food will also appreciate the gyoza—those small, crispy dumplings—as well as meat or veggie buns. Alternatively, they can find donburi as an option instead of ramen: rice bowls seasoned with a sesame sauce and accompanied by either vegetables or meat and vegetables. Finally, to add an authentic and gourmet touch to every meal, discover the edamame, sunomono cucumber, and other traditional homemade sides like the incredible Kimchi, a condiment borrowed from Korea.

Umamido is for anyone seeking an authentic and flavorful Japanese culinary experience.
The restaurant welcomes a wide and diverse audience: from office employees looking for a quick and good lunch to families wanting to share a convivial moment over a comforting and trendy meal. Tourists with busy schedules, curious to discover Japanese culture through its cuisine, are also won over by the warm atmosphere and the authenticity of the dishes.
Students and young professionals, who are often attuned to global culinary trends, find Umamido an ideal spot to enjoy dishes that combine quality, flavor, and affordable prices. Furthermore, the relaxed setting of the Spoon Food Hall allows both solo diners and groups of friends to feel right at home.
Finally, Umamido adapts to the expectations of those looking for healthy and balanced cuisine. Ramen is often perceived as a complete meal, combining proteins (meat, eggs, or tofu), carbohydrates (noodles), and vegetables, all in a nutritious broth, making it both a gourmet and nourishing choice.
With four restaurants in French-speaking Switzerland (and more in Belgium), Umamido means “degree of umami,” also translated as “the path of flavor.”
Since 2013, this has been the exact mission of founder Guy Quirynen, who fell in love with the ramen of Kyoto. Since then, he has never stopped offering a flavor-packed take on the Japanese cuisine he loves so much.
The Umamido DNA rests on three essential pillars: authenticity, product quality, and community engagement.
At Umamido, every dish is an ode to Japanese culinary tradition. Recipes are designed respecting ancestral techniques while subtly adapting to Western tastes. The broth—the central element of any ramen—is prepared daily with premium ingredients and simmered for several hours to extract all the flavors. The noodles, made in-house, are always cooked to perfection to offer that supple texture that makes Japanese ramen so successful.
Umamido makes it a point of honor to use quality ingredients, such as their ramen noodles imported from Sun Noodle, but above all local and fresh products, while respecting the seasons. This approach ensures product traceability while minimizing the restaurant’s ecological footprint. Meats are rigorously selected, as are the vegetables that garnish the ramen. This commitment to quality ensures that every bowl of ramen is not only delicious but also healthy and carefully prepared.
Furthermore, Umamido is very attentive to changing consumer expectations regarding sustainability. This is why they strive to integrate environmentally friendly practices, both in resource management and in reducing food waste.
Beyond the quality of the dishes, Umamido wishes to create a bond with its customers. Every visit to Umamido is an opportunity to gather and share an authentic culinary experience.
Moreover, Umamido seeks to integrate into the local fabric by participating in community events and collaborating with regional producers. This link with the Geneva community reinforces the image of a brand that is close to its customers and concerned with contributing positively to local life.
Umamido is the art of living “ramen style” in Geneva. It is a true invitation to travel—a moment of conviviality centered around authentic and flavorful dishes. Umamido stands out as an essential destination for all Japanese cuisine lovers. Whether you are passing through Geneva or live here, Umamido is an address not to be missed for a culinary experience that marries authenticity and modernity.
